In 1937, Loel C. Lust, with $4,000 of borrowed capital as down payment, purchased a depression-ravaged Chevrolet dealership in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The location of the original dealership (called a garage) was on the present site of the Norwest/Wells Fargo bank building. The depression had barely ended when World War II caused critical shortages in the automotive industry. Loel survived and prospered in the years following the war. Lust Chevrolet moved to a new facility on west 6th Avenue in 1957. In 1962, Jim Lust, Loel's son, became the general manager and dealer operator. In 1964, the building was doubled in size with the addition of the largest indoor showroom in the upper midwest. Buick was added to the product line in 1983. In 1985, an 8,000 sq. ft. indoor used car showroom was constructed west of the main building. Also at this time, a five-stall reconditioning facility and automated car wash was added. In 1994, a 4,000 sq. ft. parts warehouse and 2,000 sq. ft. of additional body shop were added to provide room for the growing dealership. In 1997, a satellite service and sales was established 45 miles away in Britton, South Dakota. As the millenium changed, Lust Chevrolet-Buick is managed and operated by Steven Lust, representing the third generation of a dynamic and growing family business. In 2007 Lust Chevrolet purchased Johnson Motors and got a new name, Steven Lust Automotive, to showcase its FULL GM line.
